Old Chinatown Kopitiam (Part II)

Me, together with Derick and King, went to Old Chinatown Kopitiam for dinner. I was the one who recommended this place to them because I really enjoyed their food. Delicious doesn't even begin to describe the taste of this Malaysian restaurant located in Maria Clara St. (near Banawe and Orthopedic Hospital) in Quezon City. It is King's "despedida" (farewell) treat to me and Derick since he already resigned from MSI-ECS. He seemed happier now after resigning. Why? (CLUE: People from MSI-ECS knows the reason why.... but for the sake of the other readers here it is: sometimes no matter how great the company is, the boss plays an important role in your development and maturity, King never got this from his boss and I guess no one will) Thank God King's boss isn't mine, whew!!

We ordered Bah Kut Teh, Sesame Spareribs and I let them tried the delicious Drunken Chicken. The Bah Kut Teh is the highlight of the dinner, the soup is really fabulous. It is served simering on a small stand with an alcohol lamp. This way, the soup remains hot. The taste is authentic. The soup serves 5 to 6 according to the menu but base on my own opinion, 3 is enough to share. If more than 3 people, you will fight over who gets the last slurp. That is a good explanation of how delicious is delicious this soup is. Another highlight is the dessert named "Chendol" that we ordered, it has red bean paste, coconut milk and pandan jelly served on crushed ice. It is Malaysia's local version of our Halo-Halo. All I can say is this dessert is mouth-watering! So I tell this again, delicious doesn't give justice to the food being served here in Old Chinatown Kopitiam.

Old Chinatown Kopitiam

I went with Jerwin, my brother, to Banawe today to install my gift and also Chin's gift on his Strada. We realized that it will actually take longer that we expect to install the said head unit and speakers so we decided to have lunch first. We just walked a few blocks along Banawe St. and on its side streets as well until Jerwin spotted a small but nice restaurant. It is Old Chinatown Kopitiam. As we enter the restaurant, we noticed that this place is actually very conceptualized. Its interior is carefully decorated with Chinese latterns, china procelain, and like what the old chinatown uses, simple table and chairs that is made from wood. That alone impresses us already. As we signal for the menu, I noticed that the price of their food is not cheap. The price ranges from 280 to 320 per dish.

We ordered the Pork Satay with Peanut Sauce, Garlic Cuttlefish and the Drunken Chicken. Upon serving the food, I must say it is yet the most delicious kopitiam that I have tasted here in the Philippines. It is soooooooooooooooooo delicious. Their speciality is the Bah Kut Teh, the famous pork rib soup in Singapore. We are sure gonna go back to this small, humble and very delicious restaurant.

Before I end this entry, I remind everyone when they visit this place, to order their famous coffee selection. It is very fragrant, full of flavour and delicious to the taste. No other commercialized cafe and coffee places can ever beat Old Chinatown Kopitiam's coffee.
