SM City Marikina

"The Future of Shopping Begins Now!" says SM City Marikina. SM City Marikina is owned and operated by SM Prime Holdings, Inc. It is the 31st SM Supermall here in the Philippines and the 14th SM Supermall built in Metro Manila. It opened its doors last September 05, 2008. It is located in Marcos Hi-Way, route going to Cainta, Rizal. It is near the Marikina River Banks. SM built a supermall in Marikina to give thanks to the manufacturers of the shoe industry here in the Philippines. This is where SM started its business once known as "Shoemart". Total floor area is 124,877.85 sqm.

I visited this supermall twice already. Once when we were on our way home from Avilon Zoo and the 2nd was during my work. I am always fascinated with new malls as I am very much entertained on how they built it and its architectural design. I personally find SM City Marikina beautiful. Beautiful in a sense that it doesn't look like the ordinary SM's we usually see. Its ceiling as some accents and its lighting is carefully planned too. Its main entrance facade is very nice as well.

As you stand on the center of the mall, you can clearly see its left and right. Not very SM like since almost all SM's are built big. This is smaller compared to the others base on my own opinion. It ihas a huge space for its Cyberzone area, where you can find the latest gadgets in town. The interior of the department store is amuzing as well as its supermarket.

Hurry and visit the 31st Supermall and the 14th Supermall in Metro Manila. As the motto of SM goes: "We've got it all for you!"

Avilon Zoo: Celebrating Life

Avilon Zoo is the largest zoological park here in the Philippines. It is located at Brgy. San Isidro, Rodriguez (formerly Montalban) in the province of Rizal. It takes about an hour to go to Avilon from Marikina City. It is a 7.5 hectare land that houses different kinds of animals from reptiles to amphibians to mammals.

The zoo experience itself is magnificent. The landscape, lay-out and design of the zoo is nice as well. I never really expect to have this kind of zoo here in the Philippines but Avilon astounded me. They house a lot of animals too, from arachnids to the big cats, birds of prey, farm animals, different kinds of birds, lizards and snakes. They have small mammals too: squirrels, skunks, mice, gerbils and etc.

I even had a first-hand experience in feeding the cuckatoo with sunflower seeds. The bird is quite still, quite and very friendly. It doesn't react whenever people tries to pat and touch its feathers. It is quite amuzing to see the bird peeling off the hard shell of the seed.
It met my expectations, in fact, it exceeded what I expected to see in a zoo here in the Philippines.

The Traditional Chinese Engagement

This is the first time that I actually experienced the Chinese engagement in a very traditional way.

At first, all the gifts were being placed on a table clothed in red by the family of the groom to the bride. Fabrics of all sorts were placed on the table. Sweets such as fruits, candies, cookies, biscuits and etc were being offered also. There weresampaguitas and different kinds of flowers such as chrysanthemum, rose and etc. as well. To highlight the gift offering, 4 sets of jewelries were being offered also, from gold to pearls to diamonds. Luxury watches are an integral part of the engagement ceremony.

The family of the groom will sit on the chairs adjacent to the table clothed in red with all the gifts. The groom waits as the bride will come down the stairs facing backward dressed in a beautiful red dress. The traditional tea offering is being offered to the family of the groom. Then the couple will stand up the members of the groom side will then clad the bride of the jewelries being offered to her and same goes with the bride. Cash in red envelopes were being offered as well. After which, they will sit on a table to eat misua and boiled egg. Everything of course has a symbolism.

After the ceremonies at the bride's place of residence, we then all proceed to the reception which was held at The Century Seafood Restaurant located in Malate, Manila near SM Harrison Plaza, Roxas Blvd.
